Google is rapidly gaining market share among search sites and could surpass long-time leader Yahoo if the trend continues. As of April 24, 2002, Google accounted for 31.87 percent of all search referrals worldwide - an all-time high - compared to Yahoo, with 36.35 percent.

Google has agreements with both Yahoo and Netscape to provide back-end search capability for visitors conducting searches on their sites. Google's back-end service is not included in these figures; only visitors that search directly from Google's site are included in Google's usage share.

Google's site (http://www.google.com/) ranked as the sixth most popular destination on the Web in March 2002, attracting 33 million unique visitors, according to Jupiter Media Metrix.

According to the latest press release on May 1, 2002, Google has been selected by AOL to provide editorial search results and paid listings to AOL's various search properties in the United States, including AOL Search, Netscape Search and CompuServe Search.

America Online Inc.'s decision to hire search engine leader 'Google' to help its 34 million members find their way around the Web provided another reminder of Google's rising popularity.

High website ranking on Google will also result in your high website ranking on Yahoo Web Pages. That's because the Google search engine powers the Yahoo Web Page Results. However, none of the visitors that see Google results via Yahoo are included in Google's figures, when it comes to its popularity.

Google's rise is mainly from people who go directly to the Google.com site itself, making the company's achievement even more impressive. The rise also does not count the substantial traffic going to Google's international editions, by the way. Only sites that contain "google.com" as part of their domain are counted.

If website traffic is an expectation to website success, high website ranking in Google must be a high priority.  In the order of popularity, determined by the number of links from other sites and most frequently used by surfers, Google has an outstanding track record. 

Optimizing your website for high website ranking on Google will generally result in an increase in your website ranking across most major search engines.

Getting listed in Google can either be very quick (under 2 weeks) or very long (several months) depending on their crawl schedule and how many other websites are in queue to be indexed before yours.  

We don't submit your website to Google. It prefers to have its spiders discover your site through the web-crawling process. It will not index a website until another site links to it. The spider will eventually discover that link and follow it to the respective web page. If your web pages are internally linked, the other web pages will be discovered as well.
